The Value of a Soul
--from the messages of Adrian Rogers

BIBLE MEDITATION:
1 Peter 1:18-19 - "Ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and
gold...but with the precious blood of Christ."

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
I was talking to a man who sold real estate and asked, "What determines the
worth of a piece of property?" He said, "What a person is willing to pay for it." It
doesn't matter how much you paid for it yourself. It's what a person is willing to
pay to have it for himself. That makes me want to shout! You and I must be
worth something if Jesus would pay His life to have us for His own. Jesus is the
proof of how much we're worth.

ACTION POINT:
Do you know how much you weigh? Call a jeweler or a bank today and ask how
much your weight is worth in gold. That's no comparison to your worth in blood.

The Holy Spirit

There is one person of the Father and another of the Son and another of the Holy
Ghost, but the Godhead of the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost is but one.
The glory is equal and the majesty co-eternal such as the Father is, such is the
Son, such is the Holy Ghost.

The Father is uncreated, the son is uncreated, and the Holy Ghost is uncreated.
The Father is infinite, the Son is infinite, and the Holy Ghost is infinite. The
Father is eternal, the Son is eternal, the Holy Ghost is eternal, and yet there are
not three eternals, but one eternal. So there are not three uncreated nor three
infinite but one uncreated and one infinite.

So also the Father is almighty and the Son almighty and the Holy Spirit almighty.
But there are not three almighties but one. The Father is God, the Son is God and
the Holy Ghost is God, yet there are not three Gods but one God. The Father is
Lord, the Son is Lord, the Holy Ghost is Lord, yet there are not three Lords, but
one Lord. So the Father is God and the Son is God and so the Father is Lord and
the Son is Lord and the Holy Ghost is also these things. The Father is made of
none, neither created nor begotten, the Son is of the Father alone, not made nor
created, and the Holy Ghost is of the Father and the Son, not made nor created
nor begotten but proceeding.

Not only does the historic church say that the Holy Spirit is God, but the
Scriptures declare that the Holy Spirit is God.

There is a benediction in Second Corinthians 13:14: “May the grace of the Lord
Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with
you all.”

Yes, the Holy Spirit is God, and the most important thing is that the Holy Spirit is
present now. There is unseen deity present. He is present in our midst, a
knowing, feeling personality.

He knows how you are reacting to the truth of His being and personality and
presence. He knows what you are thinking now. You cannot hide from Him—He
is present now. Jesus said, “The Father will send another Comforter to you in my
name and he will abide with you forever” (see John 14:16). So, He is here among
us now. He is indivisible from the Father and the Son, and He is all God and
exercises all the rights of God and He merits all worship and all love and all
obedience. That’s who the Holy Spirit is!

Being the Spirit of Jesus, the Holy Spirit will be found to be exactly like Jesus!
Jesus, in His body, is at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, interceding
for us. He will be there until He comes again.

But He said He would send another Counselor, the Holy Sprit—His Spirit.

We cannot be all that we ought to be for God if we do not believe and
appropriate the fact that Jesus said, “The Comforter will be my representative,
and He will be all that I am!

This is what the Holy Spirit does—He brings the wonderful mystery that is God
to us, and presents Him to the human spirit. We will never know more about God
than the Spirit teaches us. We will never know any more about Jesus than the
Spirit teaches us, because there is only the Spirit to do the teaching.

The Holy Spirit has come to comfort. He has come to teach, He is the Spirit of
instruction. He has come to bring light, for He is the Spirit of light. He comes to
bring purity, for He is the Spirit of holiness. He comes to bring power, for He is
the Spirit of power. The Holy Spirit is pure, for He is the Holy Spirit. He is wise,
for He is the Spirit of wisdom. He is true, for He is the Spirit of truth. He is like
Jesus, for He is the Spirit of Christ. He is like the Father, for He is the Spirit of
the Father.
